Self Replicating RNA Created In The Lab

The origin of life, or abiogenesis, is the single largest problem for the evolutionary world view. The creating of gases and rocks all seems simple to the brute force method of time and chance but when it comes to complex self creating, self reproducing, self sustaining organisms, you are playing in a different ball park.

The Scripps Research Institute had a release where the first paragraph said, "The scientists have synthesized for the first time RNA enzymes that can replicate themselves without the help of any proteins or other cellular components". This statement was almost shocking since I had no idea they had even gotten close to creating any enzymes (let alone RNA) from scratch in the laboratory. After reading the article the shock turned to laughter when I realized they had done no such thing.

The article states, "The goal was to take one of the RNA enzymes already developed in the lab that could perform the basic chemistry of replication, and improve it to the point that it could drive efficient, perpetual self-replication."

That's not impressive. That's like creating a car that goes to the gas station to fill up by itself. They took the already existing car and an already existing gas station and attached them to each other.

These scientists I'm sure are very smart in some respects but they claim they are "knocking on the door" to creating life. With all due respect, they wouldn't even be able to build a door if it wasn't for the materials God has already created.
